NYX Lid Lingerie Eyeshadow Palette

I've been in the market for some grungy eye shadow colours lately, more specifically ones that are similar to the Lime Crime Venus, but at a fraction of the price. Because I really didn't want to shell out £28 just after Christmas - plus I wanted to get something from Boots as I had a gift card. After a minute of research, I came across the NYX Lid Lingerie Palette. It doesn't have as many shades as Venus, but the 6 colours are similar. It is pretty, but it looked better online.

The colours are so nice and I don't have anything like the purple toned shade for my crease, so I was really pleased with that. I was only wondering a few days ago about what to use with all my purple Urban Decay shimmer shadows as I'm not a fan of a shimmery crease. It also looks like their Lingerie Lipstick in the shade Embellishment, which I own. So matchy matchy.

I like that there's mostly cool tones as I don't really have any in my collection. I'm more of a warm, toasty shadow girl so it's good to have options. I could've done without the cream shadow though. There's one in every palette and when you only have 6 shades, it's really not a necessity.

On swatching, I lost a lot of my enthusiasm...

The cream barely shows up and the rest are incredibly patchy. The shadows are quite chalky and didn't apply well at all with my finger. The browns are three or four layers deep, just to get them to look okay on my arm. But I didn't let that put me off. Swatches aren't a true representation of how the product works. You can have fantastic swatches and terrible application, and vice versa. They were also difficult to remove and stained my arm a bit, so I would not recommend going without an eye primer or base colour prior to application.

I decided I wanted to use the cool pink on my lid as I literally never wear pinks, and take the orange and bottom right brown in my crease, as well as on my lower lash line. I also added some Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Liner in Lucky, Zoeva highlighter in Interpretation of Dreams, Benefit Lash Primer and Urban Decay Trouble Maker Mascara. This is look I created, ignore the brows:

So it's not the most out there, but it's wearable and that's what I was going for.

The shadows had a little bit of kickback in the pan, but when applying them I found that there was no fall out. Until I full opened my eyes and saw that the dark shades had smudge all over my lower lash line, I hadn't even touched it yet. I'd never had that happen before with any brand. I've spend less on more and never had a problem with fall out or smudging on application. But, I was going to put it there anyway, so I just smoked it out.

I found that the colours do not blend well at all. I don't use eye primer, but I also create a base using Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer and set it with Rimmel Insta Fix and Matte Powder. The only other shadows that go on patchy and don't blend are the dark shadows in Too Faced Sweet Peach. I couldn't buff these out and there's a tell tale line on the outer edge of my shadow where I just gave up.

They aren't very pigmented either. For £8, I wasn't expecting high end quality but when brands like Makeup Revolution are producing better products for half the price, it does beg the question of cost cutting. The pink took a good few layers to give any colour and I ended up buffing the orange into it as it just wasn't doing anything for me.

I love the orange and I'm excited to try out the purple but to be honest, the palette was a massive let down. Considering how many good things I've heard about NYX shadows, I'm wondering if this palette was the dud of the collection or if its all hype. Either way, I'm probably going to be sticking to NYX lipsticks from now on.

  1. I was about to recommend makeup revolution/other tambeauty lines until i saw you mentioned them yourself. They have put out so many bomb products lately. Have you seen their little easter eggs? I want them all. https://www.tambeauty.com/en/I-Heart-Revolution/b-123.aspx

    1. They look so cute! I don't know why people don't talk about MUR more
