Makeup Revolution Liquid Highlighters (Cover FX dupe?)

By andhonestly - Sunday, October 01, 2017

Over the last year or so, highlighters have become a phenomenal trend. Everyone from Marc Jacobs to MUA has their own collection and nearly all of them are great. Like the majority of people, I'm really into it. Most of the time I prefer a more subtle glow, but every now and then, I want something that will blind a bitch.

I'm aware of the beautiful Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops, but they cost £34, so they are a firm no. It's not that I'm stingy with money, it's just that I don't see the point in paying the best part of a 50 note for something that I won't get that much use out of (I learned that lesson with the Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette). And when I saw that Makeup Revolution were launching a whole line of liquid highlighters that looked suspiciously similar, I thought that I might as well treat myself and test them out.

The shades I chose were Unicorn Elixir, Liquid Luminous Gold and Liquid Rose Gold. Initially I wanted Starlight and Champagne, but they were continually sold out.

Liquid Rose Gold is definitely too dark for me (I could tell just by looking at it), but it was too gorgeous to pass up. I can use it mixed in with other products, or as an eyeshadow. I bet it would look stunning with a halo eye.

Unicorn Elixir looks white in the photos but in real life, it's duo-chrome white and blue/purple. It's stunning and unfortunately, it refused to show up on camera.

The consistency of the product is different, depending on the shade. Unicorn Elixir is a little thinner and more runny, taking the longest to dry down. Liquid Luminous Gold and Liquid Rose Gold are slightly thicker and seem to set more quickly. I've never used a liquid highlighter before and knowing that I'll have to work quickly is a bit daunting. I've a feeling these will work better on dewy foundations as well. I can't imagine that a matte finish will help it blend.

Either way, I can't wait to start using these!

  1. Wow, these are absolutely stunning! Didn't know they had these.. so tempted to purchase them myself. It's funny how I'm automatically drawn to the liquid rose gold but boy that would be way too dark for me too.

    1. :) they are pretty. Makeup Revolution can do no wrong right now. They're killing the cheap makeup game.
