Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick

I'm not going to lie, I kind of hate myself for giving in and buying something from Jeffree Star. He has said and done some cruel, unforgivable things over the years. Which is why I've never entertained him before. Yet here I am.

It was the colour No Tea No Shade that drew me in. I spotted it in a ShaaanXO video and fell in love. I'm all about purple lips and this vampy, metallic beauty was right up my street. I tried so hard to find a good dupe in the UK, which is nigh on impossible. The only one that came close was Ofra's Treasure which was limited edition and no longer available. When I couldn't find another, I committed myself to actually giving Jeffree Star my money. But I took a step back and realised that although it would look gorgeous in photos, it wasn't exactly wearable and for the price, I want it on my face. With every intention of choosing another brand, I almost left the web page. Then Masochist caught my eye.

One colour I've never enjoyed is pink. I think it looks terrible on me - but I've always ended up acquiring (somehow) light, baby pink shades. Masochist is a dark, hot magenta that I could play down or play up. I was smitten. Before I knew what I was doing, I had hit Confirm Order and gone back on my principals.

Like all BeautyBay deliveries, it arrived FAST. Their delivery service is the best and nothing can persuade me otherwise. I was immediately surprised at how small the tube actually is. I don't know why, but they always look a lot bigger on Youtube videos or in photos. But it's still a standard size so it's nothing to complain about really. I just have a lot of opinions okay.

I do like the packaging of Jeffree Star products. It's a bit garish and a bit luxe at the same time. The actual tube has a click close lid which I was impressed with. The colour is also much lighter than the website and box sticker made it appear. Based on this I was disappointed.

However, after immediately snapping and swatching, I applied it and fell in love with the colour all over again.

The doe foot applicator has a step to it, which made applying it to my even lips miraculously easy. The lipstick is incredibly pigmented and just one dip into the tube completes a full application. Usually I need at least two. It's not patchy or streaky in the slightest and goes on with very minimal effort. Because of this, it was so easy to get a clean line.

After a few minutes, I noticed that it still hadn't dried down, but it did appear matte. I was expecting it to be transfer proof and it definitely isn't. Even the slightest touch to the lip and a whole lot of pigment comes off, but it doesn't disrupt the lipstick.

The lipstick also feathered slightly around my lips, which is not a deal breaker. All I need is a decent lip liner underneath. Then, after only a few minutes wear, I decided to remove the lipstick and discovered two things.

1. It's INCREDIBLY difficult to remove
2. It stains like a mother.

I don't wear lip stains as I don't like having residue on my lips after the product has been removed, I don't feel clean. I do know that the purpose of this is that you won't have to reapply lipstick so often, once it wears off, but I was a little bit annoyed about it. I did a bit of research that told me not every one of these lipsticks stain, so it was just a bit of bad luck that I chose one of the ones that do.

Despite the few bad points, I am irritated by how impressed I am by this product. The Jeffree Star Velour formula is just as amazing as everyone says it is. It's comfortable to wear, lasts for a long time and the shades are beautiful. It does have a faint chemical smell, but I only noticed this because I couldn't smell anything in the first place (so shoved the tube right under my nose).

And although I would love to give this a scathing review, I am probably going to be purchasing more products from Jeffree's makeup line in the near future.

  1. Ugh it sucks that i keep seeing positive reviews about his products.. But i personally don't think I'll give in and buy anything from him.
