Bed of Nails Acupressure Strap

At CarnLIVal, back in April, one of the goodies we received was an acupressure strap from the brand Bed of Nails. I had no clue what it was, so I did a little research on my phone on the train home (as you do)..

"The mystical bed of nails originated over 1,000 years ago in Asia, used by gurus in the practice of meditation and healing. Today we have embodied all the acupressure principals in an innovative re-invention with numerous healing benefits. Our genuine 21st century Bed of Nails® is a profound life changing experience that may induce deep relaxation, stimulate energy, relieve pain and heighten happiness".

As you can see, it's a strip of fabric with apron ties on either end, covered with sewn in plastic discs that are sharp to the touch. I'm not a baby when it comes to pain, but these were on the stabby side.

I brought it home and immediately shoved it into the boyfriend's hands, telling him about this weird new thing. He has been experiencing a lot of tension in his neck and upper back, so the first thing he did was ask me how to use it.

It came with this pamphlet, which told you more about the company and how it works. According to the instructions, you can lay it on the bed or pillow, or wrap it around the area you wish to focus on. Then simply chill out for a while. I was skeptical, to say the least.

The boyfriend draped it across his pillow and lay down. After a few minutes and briefly falling asleep, he declared it pretty good. Which is the closest you can get to a compliment from him, so I took that to mean it worked. Then, obviously, I had to give it a go. I get a fair amount of pain in my back (from several botched surgeries and almost 3 decades of bad posture), so I wrapped it around the area, tying it in the front and sat against the headboard of my bed, doing my thing, whilst I blogged about the event.

Surprisingly, it's not painful at all, once you're using it. Although I don't know why I was surprised. It's down to the distribution of pressure.

After half an hour, I stood up and (having forgot I'd put it on) to find that no part of my back was stiff from the position I'd been sitting in. In fact, the lingering pain from standing all afternoon was now gone. I felt more relaxed than I had all week and a little on the sleepy side. Which was hardly a shock as I'm always tired.

I've used it many times since then, mostly when I know I'm going to be sat down at the computer for a while. My lower back pain has been a thousand times better since I began using it. I've occasionally lain on it to ease any pain in my shoulders (I tend to tense them a lot without noticing), and it works amazingly well.

I'm more than impressed.

Honestly, I thought this was going to be gimmicky. I didn't think it would work at all, and it would be something that'd end up being donated to charity, or whatever. But I hold my hands up when I'm wrong. Bed of Nails have an amazing product and I now love this like it was my own stabby child.

The Bed of Nails Original Bon Acupressure Strap is available to purchase online for £24.95.

  1. That is the most gimmicky-looking product ever, but I'm glad its working for you! I used to have something similar but it did absolutely nothing for me so maybe i'll give this one a try. x

  2. 😂 totally agree! I was looking at it like "um, sure". But then again, I am susceptible to the placebo effect!
